Doses for Babies and ChildrenDoses referred to are normally adult doses. Doses for babies and children should be reduced in proportion with body weight. The following table shows doses for babies and children expressed as a percentage of the adult dose.
Only gentle herbs should be used with babies and young children. While babies are being breast-fed, herbs should normally be taken by the mother, so the baby may obtain them through the breast milk. The mother should take the adult dose. Children may not like herbs which do not taste nice. Herbs may be added to foods or drinks to improve taste. Interpolation may be used with the above table. For example, if a 4 year old uses 25% of the adult dose, and a 6 year old uses 30% of the adult dose, a 5 year old may use 27.5% of the adult dose. Alternatively, the dose of the closest younger age is near enough. For example, 25% is near enough for a 5 year old.
